I started stitching when I was very young having been influenced by my mother, who embroiders. Growing up, my Sindy dolls had some pretty fantastic outfits (considering that it was in the 1970s; looking at them now, some of the styling leaves a lot to be desired) but at school I didn't do well at dress-making (my mother having taught me far too many naughty shortcuts for my teacher's liking).
I left that behind when I started working in film and media, working for a film distributor and Disney but starting a family gave me time to renew my enthusiasm for stitching (the Sindys would have been very jealous of some of the baby clothes I made).
A silk papermaking course at Missenden Abbey set me back on a road of excitement and discovery and led me to the door of the amazing Maggie Grey. I started doing reviews for Workshop on the Web, Maggie's online textile art workshop magazine and through that I have developed my writing skills, textile experimentation and met some amazing people. I am just starting to branch out to develop more of my own work alongside what I do for WoW.
